Starting in Muscat, our adventure took us through some of Oman’s most spectacular landscapes. We began by heading west towards Nakhal Fort, where the ancient fortress stands as a sentinel against the backdrop of the Al Hajar Mountains. We discovered the pristine waters of Wadi Al Abyadh, with its white limestone creating a stunning contrast against the rugged terrain. The route then led us to one of our trip’s highlights – the challenging Wakan to Hadash trek. This demanding 13-kilometer hike, with approximately 1500 meters of elevation gain, is classified as very hard and rewarded us with breathtaking mountain vistas.
At Al Ulyah, we tackled a moderate hike while exploring the local terrain. The route to Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak at 2,905 meters, proved particularly challenging. We conquered the iconic Balcony Walk, offering us vertigo-inducing views of Oman’s “Grand Canyon.”
Wadi Damm led us to its famous pools. Our cultural exploration included stops at the historic town of Bahla, known for its impressive fort, and Nizwa, where we wandered through the souk experiencing traditional Omani trade. The small village of Misfat Al Abriyeen showcased traditional Omani architecture.
Heading east, we ventured into the Wahiba Sands (Rimal al Wahiba) before reaching Sur. Our journey culminated at Ras Al Jinz, where we enjoyed an easy walk to the turtle nesting grounds – a perfect contrast to the challenging mountain trails we had conquered earlier. Returning to Muscat, we discovered Wadi Al Arbeieen and completed our journey with the moderate Wadi Dayqah hike.
